In 2009 Google announced that meta descriptions don’t affect search engine rankings. But it is still important. It helps to convince people to click your post in the search result.

How to write a meta description in SEO

  • Write not more than 155 characters.
  • Write your keyword phrase and the description should match your content.
  • Stick to your brand tone and voice.
  • Write a unique in every post or page and did not repeat it.
  • Always communicate your message in the first 120 characters so that it requires you could truncate it.



The length is unlimited but the best length is 155 characters which google generally looks like. Keep the description sufficient and not long enough so that readers understand it easily.

Optimize your meta description so that if more people click on your search result then google consider it a good result and strong possibility of increase the ranking.

Use Active Voice:

Write your description as active voice, because it is the offer to other users to visit your post. If your description is dull then it is difficult for other users to visit your post.


Use of keyphrase in the meta description. If it matches with the keyword then google will highlight it and use it with a higher ranking in search engines.

In this way, your result is emphasized and your search result is stand out from other search results.
